Thoughts on the 3B

I have a feeling that the Yankees will soon announce the extension of a contract for their 3B. What's his name again...

Something tells me that Boras and Cashman have been in talks, and that the Cubs story the other day was leaked by Boras himself so that the Yankees will up their ante, so to speak. I think that 8 years for about $230-250 million sounds about right.

Would the Yankees sign him before the playoffs start? Interesting...

Step 1- Complete

Who would have thunk it? They didn't have enough pitching. Too old, people said. Mo was losing his touch. Joe could no longer manage. Cashman no longer could put together a team.

Now fast forward 4 short months and the Yankees are 1 of 8 teams who will determine the 2007 World Series Champion. Wow.

Not that the people here at Johnny Wishbone didn't believe we could do it. Let's look back to a July 13th post, shall we?

Here's to the 2007 Yankees and to tasting champagne 3 more times in the next 30 days.

Week 3 NFL Picks--Recap

Man I was awful this week finishing at 6-10. The one promising thing is that Eric, from That's What HE Said is much worse than I. It's like winning the wild card. You aren't good enough, or bad enough.

I am also 1-2 on my locks of the week as Oakland didn't cover, and I am 22-25 for the season. I think the Yankees were 22-25 early on and see where they are now? Shhhhhhh....

Oh and the photo above is for the last week of the Regular Season. I can't seem to place the name with the face though....

And So it Begins...

Shhhhhhhh

14.5 Games out of first place on May 29th.

1.5 games out of first place on September 20th.

It's a good thing we are in the same division with the Sawx. They are allergic to winning September baseball games, and it is amusing to watch. Nothing better than a New Englander on the ledge this morning. What I would pay to live in Beantown today.....

Congrats to Andy on his 200th career victory last night. This guy is nails.

And here's a personal shout out to my Dad, who turns 60 years old today. Without him, I might not even be a sports fan. Without him, I might not be anything. Thanks pops.

My Plea For Tonight

Pitch well Ian Kennedy and let your defense do their job. The bats will do theirs.

A.J Burnett, here's to you tonight. Let's go Jays!

Win today's game. Where's Mariano Duncan when you need him?

Week 2 Picks--Recap

6-10 for the week. Yikes.

16-16 for the season. Kinda feels like being a Yankees fan in April of this season, doesn't it?
What is funny though is that in the battle with Eric from That's What HE Said, I won this week as he got 4 right. Did I mention that Eris is a Cubs fan? Hence the shot above. That's almost as bad as the Giants "Defense," who incidentally just got scored on again.

My lock of the week, the Saints. Not so good. 1-1 on Locks.

Oh Captain, My Captain

Weekend Recap...

This is what they mean when they say "intangibles." I am glad that the Yankees game was on ESPN last night in front of a National Audience. All the naysayers who think Jeter is a product of NY and is overrated can refer to last night if they need to. The Yankees had to win last nights game. If they lose, they are done for in the AL East and only 1.5 games ahead of the Tigers. Who better to give up the game winning home run than King Narcissist himself.

Thanks for keeping the Yanks in the AL East Race, Cap.

The Patriots have been awoken, and this is not good news for the rest of the NFL. Why would you go and get the most focused team in football even MORE focused? And now they have a chip on their shoulder too? Someone please email me when they finally lose a game.

Tiger is pretty good. And pretty Rich.

The worst part about the Giants? Jeff Fisher and Bill Belichick each had their contracts extended within the past week, leaving two less excellent Head Coaches for Big Blue next season.

Yanks Win

Down 7-2 after 7 innings.

Win 8-7

Let's win tomorrow's game, remember?

A Few Thoughts While Watching Yanks/Sox

I am quite excited for football this week, if only to quit talking about this silly sign stealing stuff. You steal signs in baseball and someone throws at your head. In football apparently you tattletale. Eric "The Rat" Mangini did not mind stealing signs while Coaching the Patriots. Needless to say he will not be a Made man anytime soon.
Taking away draft picks is too harsh of a penalty if you ask me. Except the Pats have 2 first round picks, and 3 third round picks next year. The pick they lose will be the 30th pick. The other pick is from the 49ers. Which would you prefer?

Andy Pettitte looks like shit. Jason Giambi looks the same. Matsuzaka looks like 3 week old sushi. Yet the Yankees are leaving a ton of runners on base. Not a good way to win the division. Also not a good night to be without Farnsworth (neck), Vizcaino (shoulder), and Joba (the Joba rules). Can Guidry come out of the pen?

Speaking of the Giants......The home opener is this weekend as is the debut of Derek Ward and the Pillsbury Throughboy, Jared Lorenzen. If Eli is on the field on Sunday Coughlin should be beaten on the sidelines. Sit him and let him have 2 weeks rest before we play the Redskins next weekend. No word on whether the Giants will play with 11 men on the field last weekend. I didn't see them have any safties on the field last Sunday night. The offense was great. Let's hope the past 7 days were spend on tackling and covering the middle of the field.

Week 1 NFL Picks--Results

There is nothing worse than a competition ending in a tie. Id rather flip a coin and see who the winner is as opposed to a tie. That said, somehow Eric from That's What HE Said tied me at 10-6 in our week one picks.

I just flipped a coin, and won. So it looks like I am ahead. He should have ample time to study this week's picks as his Fantasy Baseball team is already at home for the winter while I am playing.

Don Shaquille?

Vito Corleone
Tony Montana
Henry Hill
Tony Soprano
Jimmy Conway

and Shaq

The above picture of Shaq's ride was taken at the LSU game this past weekend. Apparently Shaq must consider himself Omerta.

It seems that there will be a weekly head to head battle with my boy Eric from That's What HE Said.

Minn - 2.5 Atl
Sea - 6.5 Tampa
Oak - 1.5 Det
San D - 5.5 Chic
Dallas - 5.5 Giants
Cinc - 2.5 Balt

The Obligatory 2007 NFL Predictions

My brain is going to explode. It's enough that the Yankees are in a Pennant Race. Now Football starts and that just makes things more hectic. Not to mention my fantasy baseball playoffs start next week and I'm not sure I can field a roster of healthy players. And my wife may kill me with all these things happening at once. I may need a clone.

Funny thing about his football season is there are many question marks. Can Indy repeat? Will the Saints punt more than 10x this season? When will Tiki get hit by a car while crossing the street (please let this happen today)? Has Coach Coughlin changed his maniacal ways? How many passes will T.O. drop this year? Which first round pick will make the biggest impact on his team?

Here are the picks.

NFC East: Eagles
NFC North: Bears
NFC South: Saints
NFC West: Rams
Wild Cards: Dallas, Giants (had to)

AFC East: Pats
AFC North: Steelers
AFC South: Indy
AFC West: Chargers
Wild Cards: Bengals (can they stop anyone), Broncos

NFC Champs: Saints

AFC Champs: Chargers

Super Bowl Champs: Saints.

MVP: Brees
Offensive Player of the Year: Carson Palmer
Defensive Player of the Year: Champ Bailey
Offensive ROY: Calvin Johnson
Defensive ROY: Carriker
Coach of the Year: Sean Peyton
Biggest Bustout: Santonio Holmes
Biggest Bust: Travis Henry

Thoughts? Comments? Anyone actually read this???

Where is Buddy Ryan When You Need Him?

The Giants should hire Buddy Ryan as a consultant. His first piece of business should be this: Put a bounty on Tiki Barber's head. I am sure I speak for many people when I "Tiki, shut the FUCK up." Normally we don't like to use language like that here as we are classy folks. But we could not find another phrase to use here so deal with it.

Tiki, if it were not for the organization you are bashing you would be Ronde's Personal Assistant right now. Instead you get to be Matt Lauer's PA. I hope that you try and make an appearance at Giants Stadium this season. If you do make sure to bring security detail as you may get the crap beaten out of you. Too bad you didn't quit a few years earlier. Not retire, quit.
