Proctor traded to LA for Betemit

Can only mean one thing for Yankees fans...

It's Joba time! Joba (sounds like Jabba the hut) as the Yankees are set to bring up their #2 pitching prospect. Hughes should be on the squad by the weekend as well.

Anyone who wants Farnsworth please move to the front of the line!

755, 500, 300

The day in sports today is a day in numbers for many.

Barry Bonds is one HR away from tying Hank Aaron's 33 year old record. Bonds plays the next 3 games in Los Angeles, where the fans have never liked him very much, to say the least. Check later to see if Barry is in the lineup of if the team will "rest" him until returning to San Francisco next week.

Tom Glavine is one win away from 300. Glavine takes the mound in Milwaukee tonight in his first attempt at 300. This could be the last 300 game winner that we see for a very long time. Randy Johnson is within striking distance but may have thrown the last pitch of his career.

Alex Rodriguez is one HR away from 500, which will make him the youngest man ever to reach 500 HR's at the young age of 32. ARod has not gotten a hit since hitting his 499th HR last week. No word on whether Torre will move him to 8th in tonight's lineup.

The MLB Trade Deadline is 5.5 hours from now and Atlanta has taken the lead as far as deals go. Texieria is already on board with Dotel to soon follow. Look for the Mets to trade for as many 30-40 year old Latino players as possible in the next few hours. Let's hope the Yankees can trick someone into taking Farnsworth off of their hands also.

RIP Bill Walsh To a man that needs no introduction. He helped change the way modern day offenses are run.

More updates on MLB trades to come without the day.

If He Wants More Money, Cut Him

Is it the Giants fault that Strahan has a shitty divorce lawyer? Nope. Is it the Giants fault that he doesn't make as much money as Peppers and Freeny (who are both younger, and better). Nope.

But Mike wants to get paid for what he did, not what he is going to do. Well Mike, tough luck. If the Giants go 8-8 this year I will be a happy fan. This team is going to stink. Now that the #1 complainer (Tiki) quit the team he has to be replaced by #1a.

You played 8 games in 2004.
You played 9 games in 2006.
How bout you play 16 games before you ask for more?

Cut him if he doesn't want to play.

An Addition to the list of Idiots (This may have to be ongoing)

Deion Sanders doesn't think dogfighting is too bad. And I'd like to meet the dog that gets dressed up in more expensive suite then Prime Time Does.

Here's what he has to say about every one's favorite Pet Owner

Deadspin Link

Oh, and my boy Gabe is an idiot. But he's proud.

So Long, Curtis

Curtis Martin officially retired from the NFL this morning.

As someone who has watched most Jets games with his family and friends (all whom are unrealistic in regards to their team year after year) I thoroughly enjoyed watching Curtis play every Sunday. He is what all pro athletes should be. Curtis never took a play off. He never showboated after a TD or a big play. He let his hard work and play do the talking.

This is the 4th leading rusher in NFL history. Ever. Tip your cap to Curtis and wish him well. Enjoy Canton.

List of Idiots

Due to recent occurrences in the world of late I've come up with a list of the Biggest Idiots of the Summer. Lucky for us summer is not yet over and this list is sure to grow. Please feel free to add to list list in the comments section or dispute the list here. These are in no particular order.

Lindsay Lohan--Do you need to know why?
Michael Vick-- Woof
Bud Selig-- You are the commissioner, act like it
Tim Donaghy-- Your next intramural hoops ref
Stephon Marbury--Interview of the summer
Curt Schilling--What would a list of idiots be without this blowhard
David Chase--I am one of 3 people in the world who haven't complained about his ending
HBO--For not having the Wire on for way too long
John McCain-- Not as bright as we thought, eh?

5 Games Over .500

Shelley Duncan did his best Kevin Maas impersonation this weekend and hit 3 HR's in two days as the Yankees beat Tampa by 3 Touchdowns yesterday and won 3 of 4. How many games will the Gmen have 3 TD's this season is the question. The Yankees get 3 with KC this week while the Sawx play the Indians. Could get interesting in August.

Sergi Garcia chokes away the British Open. Raise your hand if you are surprised.

NBA Ref Scandal is much worse than any steroid or HGH controversy.

Speaking of which..... Barry Lamar Bonds and the Giants are home for 7 games this week. After which they go on the road for 15 of 22. He's not so tough when you use the whole name, is he?

NFL camps start this week. If the Giants go 8-8 this year I will be thrilled. Sad, but true.

MLB Trade Deadline in 8 days. Can something happen. Please? Can the Yankees get someone like David Justice to lead them to the promised land?

The Weekend Ahead...

It looks like Bud Selig may have to cancel his golf games this weekend and grab a cab over to Miller Park to see his favorite Left fielder play some ball this weekend. Personally I think that Boche should wait until there is a Selig sighting, and then he should take Barry from the lineup. The Giants are not in a pennant race as they absolutely stink. Why shouldn't Barry break this record at home? I for one will stand up and applaud the man, as should all of the fans in attendance.

Yanks and Devil Rays play 4: The Yankees blew their chance to be 6 games back yesterday as the Sawx again lost, this time to the Pale Hose. With Matt DeSalvo and Kei Igawa each pitching during tomorrow's double header. let's just hope for a split. Or an early win then some thunderstorms would work as well.

British Open: Sergio Garcia has the lead after the first round and we all know that will not last very long. This guy has Van de Velde written all over him if he even made it to Sunday with a lead. Look for a European to take this one, unless Tiger does his thing.

Michael Vick: When Marcus Vick is referred to as the "good brother" you know that somewhere along the lines you took a wrong turn. Big brother is not very bright

Hughes is Coming.....

On August 1 the Yankees rotation should be:

Wang
Pettitte
Clemens
Mussina
Hughes

As of today the division lead is only 7 games away. Historically summertime also happens to be the time of year that the New England team likes to revert to its losing ways. Did anyone say pennant race?

Not yet but let's talk again about that in a few weeks.

Ahhh, to be a Knicks Fan

I know this is a few days old now but we'd like the pager number of Stephon's "provider."

It's good to be a Knicks fan I tell you.

Win Today's Game

Remember the movie Major League? If you are too young to have seen it then please show your ID at the door, as this site is Rated R at times. If you have, then you remember when the Manager put up the cutout of the owner, and took off pieces of her clothing with every win.

Here is the Internet version of this cutout. Our research department tells us that if the Yankees win 49 more games this season, they will make the playoffs. Mark it down.

This team cannot afford to give away any wins at this point and Torre should manage the team as so. The next 29 games are very soft for the Yankees as all of our opponents are below .500 Is 22-7 asking too much? That would leave them 15 games over .500 with 50 games to play.

Win Today's game. That should be the only thing that is important.

Not Sure If He Can Act But.....

How much does this guy look like Thurm?

The Lonliest Day of the Year.

For sports fans that is what today feels like. It is the only day of the calendar year when none of the major sports leagues have a regular season game. It is a good night to stay in with the wife, or girlfriend, or if you have a nice wife you can stay in with both of them :).

Figures the one night of the year I am not distracted that my wife will be away on business.

Poker game anyone?

Home Run Derby

Tonight begins the MLB All Star Festivities which are always fun. If they would replace Chris Berman they might be even more fun. Look for Albert Pujols to win tonight and regain the power stroke that has been missing for the first half of the season. Pac Bell is a better park for right handed hitters, although you would not know since Bonds is the only one that ever leaves the park there anyway.

No word on whether Brad Lidge is available to pitch to Albert.

Here's to hoping Prince Fielder and Alex Rios lose in the first round so they are well rested for a 2nd half Fantasy Baseball push. After writing this, they will probably face each other in the finals.

Watch.

Can The Yankees Do It?

NOTE: This entry is written by guest blogger Christopher Russo.

Some say "grasping at straws" but I say "keeping the faith"!!

This latest 5 out of 7 against the Twins and Angels has made the first few weeks of the second half - meaningful. 42-43.

The media has just picked up on their weak second half sked - specifically the first 26 games against the Rays (6), Royals (7), Jays (7), Sox (3) and Orioles (3). Give me 20-6 and I say we have a shot at the Wild Card AND the division. Watch the Sox have a DECENT size swoon come 2nd half!!

Now the question is, is this team capable of getting it done? 20-6. Right now, I say "no" with the lack of NON A-Rod power production being the reason. The resurgence (to varying degrees) of Matsui, Cano, Cabrera, and Abreu has been promising but no where near enough offense to get it done. We need win more games like yesterday (3 HRs)....just beating the crap out of a struggling pitcher (Santana is having a woeful year).

The starting piching (Wang is a horse. 9 wins in 15 starts) has been there of late and is Roger going to keep this up (16 IP 7 Hits and 2 Runs Allowed)?. Even if he doesn't - Pettitte should rebound and Moose has been improving. Hughes starts in Tampa (Single A) tonight and if they can slot him in for Igawa (nice purchase and please take off the glasses) by August that will be a nice starting 5! I think it will be solid enough and then they can just shorten the bullpen down the stretch.

Proctor had been great of late and decent overall. Bruney is inconsistent, under used and has a Sub 3.00 ERA - if that's possible. Rivera seems to be back in form (10 for 10 in saves since May 1st) after a shaky April. Give me something out of Farnsworth and there we are. It'll have to do, but I think it will, with the help from the improved starting staff. This bullpen was overused early on when the starters were off in April and May.

The offense is in need badly. Somehow they are #3 in the MLB in runs scored. How? I'll never know. But we need more!! We need Damon to wake up - he's been terrible. Hurt, but terrible! Almost everyone else has shown life but him. Stop playing Cairo and get what offense you can out of Phillips (1 HR and .300 BA since being recalled). Put Cairo in for D if need be late in the game for Phillips. He's Miguel Cairo for a reason - stop playing him everyday. And while we are talking of Triple A talent. If they make a trade it has to be for an OF bat. Melky (and I love Leche's heart) is just that - Triple A talent. He plays a decent CF but isn't really much of a hitter. .275 he can do but an above .400 slugging pct is just not in the cards and necessary for an outfielder. He has 31 RBIs with a late 1st half surge and will the YES announcers stop saying that it's hard for him because he doesn't play everyday (He's started almost 80% of the games and played in 9 others - he's not productive!!).

One thing I can say is that he knows how to bunt! Why don't we play a little more small ball and manufacture a few more runs. Everyone should be asked to bunt (except Alex). Jeter had 16 sac bunts a few years back and I think that's an awesome stat - he's setting up a scoring chance for the BEST HITTER IN THE GAME - let's get Alex 170 RBIs!!

I need someone other than A-Rod to drive in a shit load of runs in the 2nd half for our offense to SUFFICE!! Like over 100 RBIs total for Jeter or 20 HRs from someone you don't expect it from, Cano or Abreu, to supplement this HUGE year that A-Rod is having.

GO YANKS!!

Go Get A Shooter Now, Zeke

Zach Randolph for a bag of balls, well done Zeke. Now the problem is that the Knicks need a shooter. Enter Rashard Lewis. This guy is perfect as the 3 for the Knicks. He can score at will and is will make the opponent work on defense. This can only be done as a sign and trade thought, so this should work.

Sonics sign Lewis (27 years old) for 5 years and $65 million. Seattle then trades Lewis to NY for Davis Lee ($2.1 mil per year for 2 years left), Nate Robinson ($2.55 mil per year for 2 years left, and Malik Rose, who is in the final year of his contract which pays him $7 million this season. The cap numbers work, the players work, and this should be a done deal.

Picture the starting lineup of Eddy Curry, Zach Randolph, Rashard Lewis, Starbury, and Crawford. Not a bad starting 5 in the Leastern Conference now is it?

Now if the Knicks could only guard someone.....
