Big Day In Nashville

It didn't take long for the first blockbuster to occur, as the Tigers came out of nowhere to land Miggy Cabrera and the D-Train on Day 2 of the Winter Meetings. The Tigers add to their loaded lineup and now have a front three of Bonderman, Verlander and Dontrelle. The other teams in the AL Central better hope the devil cashes in on the deal he made with Kenny Rogers in the '06 playoffs because that may be the only thing that stops this team. Dave Dombrowski is good at what he does.

As for the Marlins, Maybin and Miller should turn into good players but by the time they do, the team will be getting ready to unload Hanley Ramirez because they won't be able to pay him.

And I love the potential domino effect of the trade. The Angels felt confident they would land Miggy. Now they're left standing there with their thundersticks in their hand. Maybe they use the chips they were gonna use for Miggy to get Johan Santana. Nick Adenhart, Ervin Santana and Howie Kendrick may get it done, with maybe Willits having to be in there too.

I wasn't really sure the Sawx were really in on Johan. The Yanks offer was better than theirs anyway and the Twins didn't want that one. But if the Tigers lineup is gonna be that deep, you need an unreal rotation to pitch to it. So the Sawx may just go for him. The Yanks are never out of it but they are smart enough not to cave and throw in Kennedy. Gotta think down the road and Hughes and Kennedy gone, leaves the Yanks with 3 starters for '09. That's when you start signing bad free agents. If the Angels get aggressive, they can make the best offer. If not, he may be staying in Minnesota and end up being the object of the biggest bidding war in history next offseason. And we all know who's gonna win that one.....
