Four and Oh? Yeah, but....
Yes, that is a football in Mario Mannigham's hands.
The Giants are great. They are the best team in football. Blah, blah, blah. They beat a Redskins team who forgot to show opening day. They played a Rams team that has yet to win. They beat a Cinci team that stinks like, well, a Cinci team. And the beat Seattle at home. Whoop Dee Doo.
Don't get me wrong, our Offense has never looked this good in the 33 years I have been alive. Never. The Defense is as solid as you can ask for. And Jeff Feagles and John Carney are a combined 164 years old and are both great.
BUT let's see what happens when we are down 10 at the half on the road. And when we get a pick returned for an INT to give up the lead. What will happen when Plexiglass returns. Will he prove that he can forget all the BS and lace them up on Sunday and be who he was the first 3 games? Of will he turn into a taller version of Shockey?
Let's beat Cleveland in the Dawg Pound on Monday night and see. That will be one DESPERATE team on Monday night. You know what they say about desperation in the NFL....
By the way, the Redskins have played ALL of the NFC East Road games already and are 2-1. Yikes.

It's (Going to Be) a BOY!
Seems that I need to post here more often. Heard that before.
My wife Danielle is due to give birth to our first child (of a half dozen) , a baby boy on November 24th. Negotiations have begun with the Yankees on a contract that will lock him up until he turns 16. A Press Conference will be held in 2024 to announce his intentions.
Negotiations of different sorts have begun between my Wife and I. She does not see the versatility of a name like Eli Osi Rubinstein. Sounds Jewish enough to me. I can settle for Joba Phil Rubinstein is she wants something different.
Whatever name we choose we can be sure of one thing. Everett Gabel now has a sparring partner for the next century....

Maybe Moose Aint Dead Yet...
Season: 18-18
Ok, I admit it was a bit premature on the Mike Mussina Eulogy. Can you blame me? After seeing what Manny had done to this guy already this season it was hard to think that all of a sudden he would find his groove. Bobby C and Juice Giambi even got involved yesterday, proving to Yankees fans that they are actually capable of putting balls in play that do not lead directly to outs.
Here's the problem. Kei Igawa pitches vs Detroit tonight. Yes, that guy. Oh, and David Wells wants to come pitch for the Yankees. Yeah right.

Time Warner Sucks, Yankees Don't
Season Record 11-10
They are the reason for the silence coming from this blog the past few days. I wish I could run a business that has as poor service as Time Warner does and make the money that they do.
Moose pitches tonight. See the picture below for the probable outcome. The over/under in the game should be 12. I will take the over.

See What Happens When You Change Numbers Latroy?
Last Night: 15-9 Yanks
Season Record: 9-7
What a night to go to my first ballgame at the Stadium. You think when Wang pitches you would be in for many ground balls and a 2:45 game time. Not so fast my friend! On a night when starting pitching was terrible, the Yankees bullpen won this game. Yes, you heard me. The "Joba-less" bullpen did their job and held the Sawx off as the Yankees scored 2 TD's and and a 2 pt conversion.
The highlight of the game was the 3 year old kid seated a few seats away joining along in the "Manny Sucks" chant. Each time I go to a game I am reminded of how many good times we have had there.
Pictured is the new stadium....

Andy Does His Job
Season record: 8-7
Yankees win. I am tired, but am attending my first game of the year today. I will be in Main Reserve 30 if you want to have a beer.
Tuesday, April 15, 2008
Welcome to 2008 Bobby Cano
Last Night's Game: 8-7
Season Record 7-7
Johnny Damon got the Yankees started last night with a leadoff HR, followed by a HR that the 3B hit a country mile. You would think the lead was in hand as Ian Kennedy pitched a good game, but the Yankees bullpen (sans Joba) allowed the Rays to tie the game. Bobby C. then came up as a PH and hit a HR to give the Yankees the lead for good. Mariano had his first 4 out save of 2008 as well.
A few things unrelated to winning and losing for a moment.....Our thoughts are with Harlan Chamberlain who is apparently in critical condition in Nebraska.
Today is April 15. Jackie Robinson Day. This man changed sports in America forever, and there is no athletic achievement that can top what his career meant to all of us. Jackie, thank you for standing strong and doing what you felt was right, when no one else in the world could have gone through what you did. A tip of the cap today, sir.

Golden Sombrero for ARod
Season Record 4-4
It sounds like a nice hat, the Golden Sombrero. Maybe we can wear it by the pool in Puerto Rico in June. For a ballplayer though, it's the kiss of death. 4 K's in a game! Sheesh. Hughes was bad yesterday. He could not hit his spots and pitched pretty poorly. That being said the Yankees were still in the game but Brian Bannister had their way with him.
Something tells me Girardi was not in a good mood after the game last night and I think we see a turnaround with Kennedy's start today

Yanks Win, Lose The Captain
Season Record 4-3
A bittersweet win for the Yankees last night as Moose pitches a great game, and is overshadowed by Jeter leaving the game with a groin injury. Need I say more right now?

The Big Fella to the Hall of Fame!
This is a fitting day if I say so. I turned 33 4 days ago. Today, the greatest #33 of all , Patrick Ewing was elected to the Hall of Fame. If you are between 25-35 years old and you grew up in NY you know what I mean. Every time he stepped on the court, he gave it his all. He epitomized what Knicks fans want from their team. Play hard every night, and leave nothing on the court.
In 2000, some moron thought trading Patrick to Seattle was a good idea. Well, how have the past 8 years worked out here?
Big Fella, thanks for all the memories.

Yanks Win. No, Really They Did!
Season Record: 3-3
The Yankees still cannot score runs as they had 2 men cross the plate today. Thanks to the great combo of Wang, Joba, and Mo the 2-0 lead held up and the Yankees are back to .500. Hideki continues to be the only player to hit much, taking Shields deep. I'm pooped, see you tomorrow
Yankees Lose, Knicks Need Derrick Rose
Season Record: 2-3
Once again a Yankees starter was defeated as Andy's 2008 debut ended in a loss. On the bright side he seemed to finish the game healthy. That's a start, I guess. Although winning games should be a priority the long term health of Andy is obviously important. Maybe we need to get into a fight with the Rays today to get ourselves started. I'm just saying.....
I have a feeling the Yankees are going to score early, and often today as they get ready for a big week versus the hot starting Royals and the team up up Nawth, the Sawx.
On a non-Yankees note if you watched the Final Four last night you saw that the best player on the floor for any team was named Derrick. Derrick Rose. Donnie Walsh, can you PLEASE fix this team!!!

Kennedy, Farnsworth, and the (wrong) Guy Wearing #21 Get Shellacked
Season Record: 2-2
I missed last nights game for a worthwhile reason. We had a 30th Birthday surprise party for my brothers, Brett and Ethan. While we were checking Yankees updates on the blackberry, we were also busy with Tequila.
Apparently we didn't miss much. Ian Kennedy didn't last 3 innings in his season debut. Kyle Farnsworth appears to be in midseason form. And Latroy Hawkins let's up 6 in a stellar outing for the new Yankee. I remember when he was closing for the Twins a few years ago. He was awful. Apparently he still is.
Today Andy takes the mound for his 2008 debut.

Paging Jeter, Damon, Cano, Giambi
Season Record: 2-1
The Yankees eked out a win tonight while Phil Hughes pitched a good game in a ND and Mo got his second save of the season. Last year his second save came on May 3rd. The Yankees play 4 with Tampa this weekend in what will sure to be a heated matchup after the problems we had in spring training. The Yankees will need to start hitting the ball and this is a good team to get started against. Weather should be a problem tomorrow as it is set to rain tomorrow night.
Ian Kennedy gets his first start of the season, and 3rd of his short career.
Run Support Would be Helpful
Season Record: 1-1
I guess once every 4-5 years AJ Burnett is bound to pitch well when he needs a new contract. As for the Yankees, having Moose as your second starter is never a good thing, unless it is Baltimore in 1997. Arid crushed a ball to CF last night, and then K'ed in the 9th as the tying run. As good as he was last year we will have to pick him up. I'd like to see Damon and Cano get going ....

Who Needs Miggy, We Have Melky!
1-0 on the season
Well for one night at least the Yankees can bask in the joy of being in first place at 1-0. Melky Cabrera played a great CF last night and hit a big HR that brought the Yankees back even with the Jays. From there, the Joba/Mo show took over. If you watched the game last night and closed your eyes, Joba looks like Mo, and Mo looks like Wettland from 1996.
There are a few topics from the game I'd like to discuss, first of which is finding out if Girardi is holding Jeter's bat in the dugout, like his predecessor Mr. Torre would do. Also, as much as I like Joba there is something I wish he would do. The fist pump that he uses after striking someone out is bound to piss off some people by August. Maybe a little toned down celebration would be better off for him. As we know, Jeter will get hit on the hand with a fastball from some team who takes offense to this. I'm just saying......
In other baseball news...Down Goes Pedro! That was quick....I watched a bit of the Dodgers/Giants game last night and Matt Cain has some great stuff and may not win more than 10 games this year. How can the Giants send out a lineup that has Ray Durham, Dave Roberts, and has Benji Molina or Aaron Rowand hitting cleanup. Its sad....Josh Hamilton hit his first GW HR this season, in what is sure to be a breakout for him....Lastly, Troy Tulowitzki is a joy to watch and reminds me of an up and coming SS from 1996 named Jeter. As the scouts say, "This kid has got it."

Opening Day?
Did anyone watch the Padres play the Astros last night? ESPN seems to be hiring any ex baseball player and throwing them into the booth. Candy Maldonado was there last night. I can't mention his name without picturing him in the OF at Candlestick Park holding his hand above his eyes while fighting the sun, as the ball drops 20 feet from him. If he could speak English the broadcast may have been much better.
How is this the second day of baseball season and there are ZERO day games? How is that possible?

2008 MLB Predictions
The Johnny Wishbone Panel of Experts for 2008 is a remarkable combination of talent, wit, and narcissism. And that's just from Josh. In all seriousness we have a group that is second to none. You think you need Kurkijan, Olney, and Gammons? Let's check our numbers versus theirs at year's end and see where we stand. No, not paycheck numbers. Without further ado, the 2008 experts and their predictions:
Josh Brill--Josh stands 5'10 in platform shoes and has yet to actually make a scale's needle move. An aspiring Screenwriter Josh lives in the LA Suburbs and has not been seen with Britney Spears. We cannot say this is due to a lack of trying. Josh likes Asian women and cold beer and can be found watching MLB.tv for the next 6 months in his Joe Girardi 25 t-shirt. Josh is also a contributor to Johnny Wishbone.
Eric Anderson-- A West Coast Native, Eric spends his days as a Web Editor for AccessHollywood.com and his nights reminding his Fiancee Shelley Aguilar why she is the luckiest woman left of the Mississippi (sorry Holly). EA also spends his days on Instant Messenger with Craig talking sports all day at work. Eric has his own blog That's What HE Said, but don't read it becasue he does not really update it very often.
Chris Baker-- Chris can be found in God's Country, San Diego, wearing flip flops and a Hawaiian shirt by day. And by night. Rarely found without a cold one in his right hand, Chris is an avid golfer and loses to his older brother beats him in Fantasy sports every year. Chris is wed to the beautiful girl from Chicago, Holly Pissy Pants.
Seth Cohn-- As an attorney in NYC Seth spends much of his day in court litigating in front of the likes of Judge Harry Stone. As an expecting father Seth spends the rest of his time figuring out how to raise a child, and when he will be playing golf this summer. Seth was to be a Johnny Wishbone contributor but has yet to figure out how to log in.
Kevin Connors--Kevin is about 6'3" 115 lbs and can see the floor and handle the rock. He also has a gift for gab and can be heard during Yankees Broadcasts on 880 WCBS Radio in NYC. Please don't confuse his with Suzyn Waldman. Kevin grew up in the Rock and goes to church on Sundays.
Seth Doria-- Seth is first in foremost known as a family man, as he lives in the Midwest with his wife and two children. Seth is the only person here responsible enough to actually have kids. If you saw his 2007 predictions you will know why is is known as a family man first. Seth also has a blog The Left Calf.
Craig Rubinstein--Craig is not sure what his is known for, which may be why he has the time to write this in the first place. He is the main contributor to Johnny Wishbone and still gets an erection when the NY Giants are mentioned. He wears his emotions on his sleeve and is most looking forward to Ricky Henderson's Hall of Fame Induction Speech. Craig would like Ricky to introduce Ricky. Craig is tolerated, (most of the time) by his beautiful Bride Danielle.

This Is a Great Time of Year...
Spring Training is in full swing and it should be an interesting year for the "underdog" Yankees. Yes, I did just use the word underdog and Yankees in the same sentence. When you have 3 rookie pitchers who are important parts of your staff you cannot be considered the favorite. Let's hope these Yankees have a flair for the dramatic in this last season in Yankee Stadium.
March Madness stepped things up yesterday after a slow opening night. UConn losing in the first round is a great thing to see, as we hope that Miserable Coach of theirs goes away sometime soon. Today's Duke/WVU game should be a great one to watch.
Here's something interesting to think about also. Remember when St John's was a powerhouse? It was not too long ago and in the last decade things have gone to crap. Why are the best NYC High School players all playing for Jamie Dixon at Pitt? Between St John's and the Knicks this is the worst I have seen NYC basketball in my lifetime (32 solid years and counting). This needs to change. FAST!
Lastly I have 2 fantasy baseball drafts in the next 48 hours. I must say that the next few days are going to be a lot of fun.....
Lastly, here are some photos of the New Yankee Stadium.

I Kinda Like These Yankees
Well it only took a few weeks of Spring Training baseball before the Yankees start to show their stuff. No, not the stuff we have been seeing in spring the past few seasons (fat old men with bad hamstrings). This Yankees team has a lot of Girardi in them already. And this is a good thing. He was a tough, hard nosed player and he wants his team to be the same.
I like what I see. But lets not get anyone hurt during these royal rumbles please fellas. Note to the pitchers. Stay in the pen and watch.

Fresh and Ready to Go
Now that March is upon us it is almost time for baseball, and the NCAA tournament. By then the Jets will have spent more money than Mike Huckabee. A funny thing happened a few days back. A friend of mine said I should post on the blog more as when he is bored and needs a laugh he looks here. That's good enough for me.
Baseball is in less than a month. Nice.

The Best Story You've Ever Heard
Note: This story is from a forwarded email I received from a friend a few days ago. This may be the best story ever to come from a fan, especially a fan whose New York Giants just won Super Bowl XLII. The pics
Hello everyone, I know many of you have heard about my story so far but for those of you that haven't......Take the time to read below (it's long but worth it) and look at the pictures and watch the videos. I had the best day of my life yesterday and it is one of the funniest stories you will ever hear.
So I got home from Arizona late Monday night after seeing the Giants win an amazing Super Bowl. I had an unbelievable weekend and I didn't think it could ever be topped....until yesterday.
Around 11:30 yesterday morning I decided to go and checkout the Giants ticker-tape parade. I figured I would just go for an hour or so and then head back home to get some work done. Little did I know it would turn into an 8 hour affair.
I received a pass to get onto the City Hall grounds (Thanks Mr. Karafiol) which got me relatively near the action. Once I realized that my designated section was actually pretty far away from the stage, I decided to move a little closer. I then snuck into the press section directly in front of the stage. I was sporting my Eli Manning Super Bowl jersey with a Giants hat and around my neck I had my lanyard and ticket stub from the Super Bowl.. That is what saved me all day. The lanyard looked very "professional" so I was able to sneak into the press area.
Once the ceremony was over and the Giants started to move off of the stage, I creeped up to the stage. I then looked behind me and John Mara was there with his wife (the majority owner of the team). I then kind of blended in with his family as they were walking out and next thing I knew I got through the first security checkpoint. There were three more security checkpoints and with each one I got more and more nervous. I simply just walked aside Mr. Mara and his family (which was about 20 people deep) so it wasn't hard for me to blend in really. Next thing I know, they are guiding us to the other side of City Hall where there are four luxury buses waiting. I just kept walking along and next thing I know I had two of the four buses to choose from. I wanted to find the players bus but I didn't want to press my luck so I stayed with what worked. I just kept following Mr. Mara. I actually got on the bus directly in between him and his wife. I then sat down on the bus and just kept my head down. I didn't make eye contact with anyone or speak to anyone, I was so nervous. Sitting next to me was David Tyree's mother (he was two rows back with his son) and one row in front of me to my right was John Mara and his daughter (who happens to be gorgeous)
As we are pulling away from City Hall, the streets are lined with Giants fans cheering for "us" and we had a police escort the entire way to Giants Stadium. That's where things got interesting. We got off the bus and were escorted directly into the Stadium tunnel. This is where I thought I was going to get caught. I had no idea what to do next. All of the players went in the locker room and all the Mara's said they were going up to the owner's box for the ceremony. I had to make a decision. I then saw David Tyree walking in with his little son and decided I would act like I was
with them. I walked right behind him and got right into the locker room.. So now the real fun starts. I'm hanging out as if I'm a player while all the guys in the locker room are just getting each other's autographs on the game balls and on their jerseys. This was my time to shine. I walked around and took some pictures of some of the lockers and then I got to Eli's. I
asked Eli if he could sign my ticket stub from the Super Bowl, which he did. I then asked him to sign my Super Bowl jersey, which he did. I was then ecstatic and didn't know what to do. I even had people coming up to me asking me for my autograph. They must have thought I was Lawrence Tynes (the kicker) or something.
I stopped getting autographs at that point other than Brandon Jacobs signing my hat. By then all of the players were being called onto the field for the ceremony. So I figured...why not go with them. I walked right out into the tunnel with them and as they announced the players coming out, I just stood there shaking, thinking I was bound to get caught. I look to my left and Tom Coughlin is literally about 6 inches from me holding the Lombardi trophy (see great picture). Then I just went for it....I walked out there like I was on the team. I came out and there were probably 20-30,000 fans at the stadium all screaming and going crazy. I tried to take as much video as I could but I was so nervous/scared/excited at the same time. My favorite picture of the whole event can be found at www.nj.com/giants/ where I am directly behind Tom Coughlin running around the field. I watched the whole ceremony from literally right in front of
the stage.
After the ceremony, I had to try to sneak back in to the locker room. I then saw a couple people of the Mara family (there were so many of them) that must not have gone up to the luxury box and once again I just acted like I was a family member. Next thing I know, I make it through two more security checkpoints and I'm right back in the locker room. This is where it was awesome. All the players were just dancing around and having a good time. Many of them were cleaning out their lockers and throwing things away. This is where I took all the pictures with the players. I could care less if I got caught at this point. I was just a lucky Giant fan that happened to sneak his way into the press section, then on to the owners bus, onto the field and into the locker room, all while going unnoticed.. I then walked around the locker room and got every single player to sign my hat and I even got Gibril Wilson's game sweatshirt from him that he signed
for me.
So I walked away with an Eli Manning signed Super Bowl ticket, an Eli signed Super Bowl jersey, a hat signed by the whole team, my City Hall access pass signed by Strahan (which is going to Mr. Karafiol as a thank you) and Gibril Wilson's signed game sweatshirt.
All more importantly I walked away with the great memories of the entire weekend and I was lucky enough to live them first hand. Thank god I have the pictures to prove it because I knew none of you would ever believe me.
I had an angel looking down on me yesterday making sure I had an unbelievable day and I know that angel was my sister Jaime. I can just picture her now...........smiling from ear to ear and being so happy for me.
Enjoy the PICS.

Party Time
Wow.
It's more exciting than ever expected. The New York Football Giants are the Super Bowl Champions. Say that again. It sounds oh so nice. The New York Giants won Super Bowl XLII. HAHAHAHAHA.
I can't stop from smiling, or laughing, or being downright giddy. It's funny what it takes to turn a grown man into a teenager again. Just a little offensive execution and some of the nastiest Defensive line work seen in quite some time. Excuse me while I giggle a bit.
It's funny to get these text messages from my friends saying "Holy fucking shit." The best part is that none of them are coming from Giants fans. These are from the Jets fans.
Did Giants fans expect to win this game? No. Did we think that we COULD win this game. Absolutely. But I still cannot believe that the Giants won this game. I was 15 years old when the Giants last won a Super Bowl. 17 years later it is just as sweet. Let's hope this taste lasts for a while.
See you at the Parade!

The Giants Can Win This Game
Today is the day. After 2 weeks of ankles, spies, and parties, Super Bowl XLII is finally upon us. Now, it's time to get down to business. The New York Football Giants are going to ruin everything today. This Boston Sports Domination has got to stop, or the Apocalypse may be much closer than we think it is.
Will the Giants have to play a great game in order to win today? No Doubt. Do they have to be perfect? Nope. Really? Yes, really. You cannot expect a team to play a perfect game as it does not happen. You also do not want your team to feel that they are not aboe to OVERCOME any mistakes that may be made. This is football, where the team that makes the best adjustments will raise the Lombardi Trophy 9 hours from now.
Can the Giants take advantage of the Patriots defense? They should be able to get their WR's and Backs in the flat in a foot race with the Pats LB's. I believe that Ahmad Bradshaw along with Steve Smith will have a big part of the offense today as we try and exploit some weaknesses.
Can the Giants Defense slow down the Patriots offense? Before I went to bed last night I prayed that they could do so. As we know all to well, the key to slowing this offense is to get to Tom Brady. Easier said than done, right? Well, the Giants need to do what they have done the past month. Change up their blitzes and where they are coming from. Aaron Ross has shown the ability to get to the QB, as can Gibril Wilson. They need to come from everywhere today.
The Giants have an advantage on Special Teams and will need good field position to keep the Pats from scoring. Jeff Feagles will have to play his best game, as well.
What does all of this mean? All I know is that 98% of the predictions I have seen so far have picked the Patriots. Perfect. This is how the Giants (and their fans, ahem) like it. New Yorkers are not used to being the underdog but I must say, it is a bit fun.
If the Giants win this game today I think the MVP will be one of two players. Eli Manning, or Justin Tuck. America will soon learn why the Giants just locked up Tuck for the next 5 years even if he has only started 2 games in his short career.

The Patirots are Planning a Parade, Already
I am also hearing that they may just cancel the game and have a 4.5 hour episode of American Idol.

Why Not Us?
So it's going to be the Packers vs the Patriots in SB42 eh? I heard that they may even cancel the games tomorrow so they get an extra weeks rest to play one another for the Fairy Tale Game of the Century.
As some annoying guy on ESPN says, not so fast my friend.
Last I checked the temperature in Green Bay tomorrow will be the same for both teams. I don't think Favre is capable of parting the clouds and stopping the wind while on offense. Although I wouldn't put it past the guy.
When the Giants beat the Bears in Soldier Field this season, weren't the winds upwards of 25 MPH? Did you see them play the Dolphins in London? I barely did as the rain covered the screen for most of the day and I am not sure what I saw. I do recall the Giants clinching a playoff berth while playing in Buffalo in December in an awful snowstorm.
What am I saying? I guess that the game of football still has to be played for 60 minutes tomorrow. If the Giants can get their hands on Brett Favre, they will force him into bad throws and need to capitalize on things. Last I checked the most competitive opponent for the NE Patriots this season was no other than the New York Football Giants.
And the Giants are ready for a rematch.
GO BLUE!!!
